Arikok National Park Guide: Pass, Hours, Rules and Routes

Arikok covers about a fifth of Aruba.
This guide answers what it costs, when the gates close and which vehicle you can bring, with dated numbers from the park authority, then walks through the caves, trails and the Natural Pool inside it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Day pass: $22 per person for adults, free for children under 17 (Aruba Conservation Foundation wording). Buy it at either entrance.
- Two entrances, two sets of hours: San Fuego (Santa Cruz) 8:00 to 15:30. Vaderpiet (San Nicolas) closes at 15:00 and opens at 8:30 or 9:00 depending on the official page, so check on the day.
- ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles are banned from the park’s protected nature areas (Aruba Conservation Foundation). Aventurova’s Wrangler and Gladiator Jeeps are allowed to drive to the Natural Pool and other permitted off road destinations in the park.
- The Natural Pool (Conchi) is inside the park and needs a vehicle allowed past the gate to reach it, and it closes to swimming when the sea is rough.
- Guided ranger hikes run $25 per person.
- You can visit on a guided tour or drive a 4×4 yourself. Aventurova’s Wrangler and Gladiator Jeeps are allowed on the park’s permitted off-road routes. (Aventurova FAQ, checked 20 Sep 2026)
1. Entrance fee and day pass
The Aruba Conservation Foundation, which manages the park, lists the conservation day pass at $22 per person for adults, with children under 17 free (acf.aw/experiences, checked 20 Sep 2026, exact wording “Children (<17): Free”).
Older pages may still quote a lower entry fee. The current adult day pass is $22 per person (Aruba Conservation Foundation, acf.aw/experiences, checked 20 Sep 2026). Check the fee against acf.aw before you budget your day.
2. Hours and entrances
Arikok has two ways in, and they do not keep the same hours.
| Entrance | Location | Hours |
|---|---|---|
| San Fuego | Santa Cruz | 8:00 to 15:30 daily |
| Vaderpiet | San Nicolas | Opens 8:30 or 9:00 (see below), closes 15:00 daily |
Both official ACF pages agree that San Fuego is open 8:00 to 15:30 and that Vaderpiet closes at 15:00. They differ on when Vaderpiet opens: 9:00 on acf.aw and 8:30 on acf.aw/experiences, so check on the day (acf.aw and acf.aw/experiences, checked 20 Sep 2026). Plan to be back at your vehicle well before the entrance closes, not at closing time.
3. What you can and cannot drive inside
Here is the plain version.
Not allowed
ATVs, UTVs and motorcycles, banned from the park’s protected nature areas (Aruba Conservation Foundation, acf.aw/experiences, checked 19 Sep 2026). The park announced its restrictions on 11 May 2020: entrance halted for ATVs, UTVs, motorcycles, buggies and trikes from 1 June 2020, with guided UTV visits allowed only until 31 October 2020 (wheninaruba.com, published 11 May 2020).
Allowed
ACF’s page lists only what is prohibited, not what is allowed. Aventurova’s own FAQ says its 4×4 Wrangler and Gladiator Jeeps are allowed to drive to the Natural Pool and other permitted off road destinations in the park (checked 20 Sep 2026).
Any other vehicle
For any other vehicle, check with the visitor center before you go.
If your trip plan includes both a UTV ride and an Arikok visit, they need to be two separate parts of the day. Aventurova’s UTVs are for riding outside the park; a Jeep is what gets you through the Arikok gate.
4. The Natural Pool (Conchi)
The Natural Pool sits inside Arikok, reached by park roads that need a 4×4 (aruba.com), not a UTV.
The pool has closed before because of rough water. The Aruba Conservation Foundation announced that it was closing Conchi “until further notice” because of weather and water conditions caused by Hurricane Beryl (Aruba Today, “Important announcement: Conchi closed until further notice”). Whether the pool is swimmable is a call made on the day, so treat a calm, swimmable pool as something to confirm on arrival, not something to count on before you go.
5. What to bring
- Water. Bring your own.
- Sun protection: hat and sunscreen, reapplied if you are hiking.
- Closed shoes for the trails and cave visits.
- A way to pay. Aventurova’s rental deposit requires a credit card; carry one for the day.
6. Caves and hikes
The Aruba Conservation Foundation runs guided ranger hikes at $25 per person, capped at 10 people per group (acf.aw/experiences, checked 19 Sep 2026):
| Trail | Distance | Duration | Difficulty | Start time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cunucu Arikok | 5 km / 3.1 mi | 1.5 hours | Easy | 8:00 am |
| Miralamar | 2 km / 1.2 mi | 1.5 hours | Easy | 8:00 am |
| Jamanota Hill | 4.8 km / 2.9 mi | 2 hours | Hard | 8:00 am |
| Rooi Tambu and Dos Playa | 7.5 km / 4.6 mi | 3.5 hours | Hard | 7:00 am |
The Aruba Conservation Foundation calls the Cunucu Arikok trail the best introduction to Aruba’s diverse flora and fauna, and it passes native pictographs. Quadirikiri and Fontein caves, both inside the park, hold indigenous drawings; ask at the visitor center which caves are open when you buy your pass.

7. How much time to set aside
1: Get moving early
Buy your pass and get moving early. The San Fuego visitor center closes at 15:30 and Vaderpiet at 15:00 (acf.aw and acf.aw/experiences, checked 20 Sep 2026).

2: Decide on a hike first
ACF’s guided hikes last between 1.5 and 3.5 hours (see section 6), so decide first whether you want one, then fit the caves and the Natural Pool around it.

8. Arikok by Jeep, or on a tour
Arikok National Park tours are the easy way in: someone else drives and sets the schedule. The other way is a self-drive day, where you pick the stops and the start time. A standard car covers the paved main road and a couple of stops, but the Natural Pool (Conchi) and several of the rougher coastal trails need a 4×4. (aruba.com, checked 25 Sep 2026) Aventurova’s Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator are allowed on the park’s permitted off-road routes. (Aventurova FAQ, checked 20 Sep 2026) A Wrangler starts at $259.99 a day, before tax, and the park pass is not included. (Aventurova Jeep page, checked 25 Sep 2026) Pick-up is free at the airport, the cruise port, the Ponton 49 office or your hotel. (book.aventurova.com, checked 22 Sep 2026) See Jeep rental in Aruba. To compare a guided shuttle with driving yourself, read Natural Pool: shuttle or self-drive Jeep. UTVs cannot enter the park, but rent a UTV in Aruba for the coast outside it.
Conclusion
Arikok rewards a bit of planning more than most Aruba stops. Get the current fee and the right entrance hours, bring a vehicle the park actually allows in, and plan the caves, a hike and the Natural Pool around the closing times instead of guessing.
Nearly 20% of Aruba is a designated national park, and Arikok covers 7,907 acres, roughly 32 square kilometers (aruba.com, Arikok National Park page, checked 20 Sep 2026).
